Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer

by Andra I.

Well, adenocarcinoma lung cancer is known to be one of the most complicated types of cancer, since this cancer has spread to different parts of the pulmonary regions.  What is affected is the lining of the bronchi, where secretory cells are located.  The adenocarcinoma can be slow-growing, but when left untreated, it can spread to the opposite lung, the bones, the brain and liver.

With adenocarcinoma, lung function is severely affected – and this does not just make it painful, but also leaves the patient with a very slim chance of survival.  As such, this kind of lung cancer is serious and critical.  The patient has to undergo an extensive treatment protocol in order to recover.

The cancer cells use the lymphatic glands and the blood vessels to spread itself to the different areas of the lungs.  It can also directly invade the tissue structures.  This type of lung cancer is characterized by intense pain, cough, partial breathlessness and dyspnea.

With adenocarcinoma lung cancer, the recommended treatment is aggressive chemotherapy, supportive therapy, special nutrition and radiation therapy.  There may also be a need for surgery.  The treatment would really depend on the extent of the metastasis.

It is important that adenocarcinoma is diagnosed early.  The earlier it is caught, the more chances for the patient to survive.  When the patient is able to get treatment and chemotherapy, there is an increased possibility of remission.  The success of the treatment will also be dependent on the ability of the patient to bear the therapy’s toxic effects.  In the end, it really depends on the cooperation and teamwork between the patient and doctor.

The best way to prevent adenocarcinoma lung cancer would be to have a healthy lifestyle, one that eschews smoking, as well as exposure to asbestos and other metals such as nickel, arsenic and chromium.  One should also have a healthy diet filled with fruits, vegetables and plenty of fiber.
